Slovenia vs Denmark Predictions
Slovenia and Denmark Euro Cup 2024 exposed play on 20th June with a key match for both countries in terms of their prospects of prerequisite from Group C.
Full-Time Result Prediction: At an odds-on price Denmark are highly touted to do the business in this Group C opener and we believe they’ll be able to narrowly secure all three points, given how Slovenia have never been able to beat them across six matches, including two recent Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Goals Market Prediction: Neither of these two are high scorers, with Slovenia actually netting more and conceding fewer during qualifying. That’s why it’s probably wise to side with Under 2.5 Goals, and even Under 1.5 Goals could be in with a reasonable shout.
Both Teams To Score (BTTS): Saying that, both teams have scored in each of their last two encounters, making this selection seem perfectly plausible at around the 10/11 mark.
First Goalscorer Prediction: If we had to predict an opening goalscorer in this contest, a number of Denmark’s goals come away from their forward three, so it could pay to back a more unconventional choice, such as Joakim Maehle or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Key Battle: If the Danes are to nullify any threat Slovenia may carry, then they’ll have to shut out the 20-year-old forward Benjamin Sesko, who’s netted 17 goals for RB Leipzig this term, and is drawing comparisons to Erling Haaland. Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen is likely to occupy the right centre-back role in a Denmark defensive three and therefore will be responsible for marking the youngster.
Tactical Approach: Lars Sondergaard likes to line-up with a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3 formation, relying on ball-playing midfielders to retain control of the ball. That was reflected in the 66% possession they had in November’s 2-1 win over Slovenia, and we can expect a similar story in this Group C opener.
Slovenia Latest Team News
Slovenia built their qualification to Euro 2024 off the back of a sturdy defence that only conceded nine times. There are no household names in the back four but football fans will be familiar with Jan Oblak in goal, following his consistent excellent performances for Atletico Madrid over the past decade.
In attack, Benjamin Šeško has been a key player for Slovenia since his debut in 2021. The Leipzig forward has 11 goals for his nation, with five of those coming in the qualifying campaign for this competition.
Slovenia’s chances of success this summer may well hinge on how well those two players perform for them. If Oblak can frustrate the forwards of Denmark, and England, and Šeško can continue his good form they have an outside chance of qualifying for their first tournament knockout stage.
Denmark Latest Team News
There are plenty of players within the Danish squad that will be familiar to fans of English football. Their latest squad included nine players who ply their trade in England, with eyes drawn to Manchester United duo, Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen.
Kasper Hjulmand is the man who led this side to the semi-final of Euro 2020 and he continues to be in charge here. He’ll be hoping to go at least one step further and he’s certainly got plenty of experience within his squad with at least eight players who have 30 or more caps likely to be named in his squad.
With England up next for Denmark, a win in this game could be pivotal for the Danish side. A win here and they relieve a lot of pressure but failing to pick up three points means their match with England will be even more important if they hope to make it out of Group C.
